Heyhouses had an Ofsted inspection in October 2024. We are very proud of our school and were delighted with the results of the inspection.

The report highlights the caring, high-expectation environment we’ve created at Heyhouses. Pupils feel safe, secure, and well-supported by staff, and their positive attitudes and hard work contribute to an orderly and inclusive school culture. This foundation enables pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), to consistently give their best.

OFSTED particularly noted the respectful, encouraging relationships that staff model every day, which pupils then mirror in their interactions with each other. The nurturing approach we take at Heyhouses extends beyond the classroom and includes support for families, helping to strengthen our community.

Here are a few key highlights:

  • Positive and Supportive Atmosphere: Staff’s kindness and respect inspire students to engage fully and respectfully, creating a calm environment where all pupils feel valued and encouraged.
  • Creative and Enrichment Opportunities: From our identity as a “singing school” to leadership roles and community involvement, pupils have many opportunities to grow, express themselves, and connect with others.
  • Strong Curriculum and Teaching: Our well-organized curriculum builds knowledge progressively, helping students grasp complex topics. Teachers revisit key concepts regularly, which strengthens students’ understanding and confidence.
  • Early Years Program: Our Early Years program promotes social skills and collaboration, laying the foundation for later learning. Improvements made to align activities with our new curriculum are already benefitting students.
  • Love of Reading: Our reading program supports literacy at all levels. Early phonics instruction builds foundational skills, while inviting reading areas and engaging book selections foster a love for reading.

SIAMS

Heyhouses had a SIAMS inspection in April 2018. The report celebrates the impact that our clear Christian Values have on all within the school.

See below a few comments from the report:

Pupils’ exemplary behaviour and remarkably positive attitudes to life and learning reflect their understanding and use of well-established Christian values.

Pupils’ outstanding spiritual and personal development is exceedingly well supported through the creative curriculum, religious education (RE), collective worship and strong links with the church.

Nurturing relationships, based on Christian respect and hope, support and inspire staff, pupils and their families.

The school’s established Christian vision and values are thoroughly understood and embraced by all members of the school family. ‘We want everyone in our school to live happily together. There is a place for everyone,’ stated a Year 5 pupil. The calm, purposeful and welcoming atmosphere, which is immediately felt by visitors, creates a truly Christian learning environment in which everyone is supported and inspired to achieve. Relationships across the school are remarkably strong. Staff, pupils and parents say that they feel valued and respected. This is because the Christian values of trust, hope and friendship are at the heart of everything that is planned and achieved.
